Alleyn Benevolent Fund
The Alleyn Benevolent Fund (commonly referred to as the ABF) was set up just after the First World War by a group of Alleyn Old Boys to assist past and present pupils who may be in need.
Over the passing years the fund concentrated mainly on giving assistance to pupil needs and, with the death of Dutton's Housemaster, Sidney Incledon, a number of donations were made in his memory. To mark this, the then committee decided to set up a bursary award in his memory.
A similar situation arose with the passing of Headmaster Derek Fenner who had overseen the full integration of girls into the School. The committee was thus able to dedicate further monies to a bursary award in his name. The original intention was that the two awards would be used to fund one-third of school fees to enable two or more pupils to stay and take their A levels when they would otherwise have to leave because of financial constraints.
Over the years, income to the fund has consistently fallen short of the increases in school fees so that there are times when the fund has a deficit. The deficit in the last year has been cleared following the appeal in the April issue of the Edward Alleyn Club Magazine courtesy of some generous donations from alumni and others. The Trustees are, however, facing a further deficit for the academic year 2010/11 of around £1,500 and an appeal is being made to try to reduce or eliminate the deficit.
Your donation will be welcomed to enable the trustees to continue with the two bursary awards mentioned above.
Cheques should be made payable to the 'Alleyn Benevolent Fund' and should be sent to:
